"You can't change the world by saving one animal,
but for that one animal, you change it's world"

Ozzy aka 'the General' (after Watership Down's General Woundwort) 4 yo male

Ozzy was basically dumped on us and abandoned on the 9th of June with horrifically infected ears and eyes, the worst our vet has seen. He also had severely over grown nails, fleas and a flea allergy .

It was a whirlwind first week for poor Ozzy has had his nails clipped, been castrated, microchipped and is currently on a very long course of anti biotics and steroids to treat the infection in his ears totalling in excess of £200.  Ozzy will require further surgery to widen his ear canals in both ears which is hoped will prevent the reoccurrence of future ear infections, as his canals are so closed off infection was trapped inside causing a large build up of what can only be described as custard causing severe pain.  He may also require entropion surgery in one or both of his eyes.

Upon arrival with us Ozzys nature was extremely unpredictable, and would lash out if anyone tried to touch his ears or eyes, bumped into him or generally got in his way this is understandable given the pain he must have been in and the length of time that he has had to endure his condition.  For the first 3 days he was with us he would stay in his basket looking withdrawn and miserable.  However 5 days after surgery Ozzy started to play with his rubber bone and kong and now regularly is seen playing.

Ozzy has a long way to go before he will be available for adoption, however he now enjoys being scratched, and stroked and will allow you to rub his head, smooth over his eyes and gently massage his ears, all with a waggy stump so HUGE progress has been made in such a small space of time.  We are confident given time, some socialisation, and more treatment that Ozzy will make a very loyal, very comical companion for the right person.

Ozzy knows sit and paw and will walk nicely on the lead and take treats extremely gently.  He is clean in the house, does not chew and will talk if he wants a drink, food, or to go to the toilet or generally to just tell you to stop ignoring him!  Ozzy could be rehomed with a bitch for company but does not like males.  He is also not cat tested and would not
be rehomed with young children, older dog savvy children would be considered.  Priority would be given to a rottie experienced home who understands what this boy has been through and who would be willing to work with him to complete his recovery.

UPDATE:  Ozzy's making excellent progress.  He's actually turning out to be a really nice, affectionate playful boy.  His real problem is he's not be socialised well with other dogs and so he can be dog aggressive over food, toys, or just if he gets knocked around or woken by another dog.  We think an only dog home would suit him.

Ozzy's ears are much better at the moment with regular treatment but long term he needs an expensive op to permanently sort his ears.  If you would like to make a donation towards Ozzy's ear operation please use the donate button below.  Any donation, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.

We're over 70% of the way there!

Ozzy is coming on leaps and bounds.  His ears are much better following a very long course of antibiotics and he now enjoys his ears being massaged.  He's still very much in need of an operation on his ear canals and your donations have been much appreciated.  We are on our way to getting the money together.

His eyes have now cleared of infection and Ozzy recently attended a Rottweiler Show at Malvern for a weekend away which he thoroughly enjoyed.
